Don't be Fooled.... It's SOAP!!!

Once again, I am awestruck at the ingenious, creative ways individuals find to elevate soap to an art form. In this case, a culinary art form (OK, you can't eat it, but it sure looks like the real thing).

Carolyn and Selena Shillito are a mother and daughter team in Australia who make exquisite cake and cupcake soaps. Each soap is individually handmade in their home kitchen. I can't even begin to guess how long it takes to make just one let alone an entire cupcake tray. Take a peek at their web site, you'll be amazed at their work. I'm certain they're not willing to divulge a cupcake how-to; but, should they ever offer an online class, I'll be the first to sign up.

There are other talented cupcake soap divas right here in our own neck of the woods (pictured below). I sure hope this post offers inspiration and gives food for thought (no pun intended) on what you (yes, YOU) can do with soap.

Hi Denise,
Selena Shillito from the daughter half of the B.Gentle soap making team here! Let me just say that I was absolutely gob smacked when I a good friend sent us the link to your site and I saw and read about our soaps. Thank you, it's very flattering to hear feedback like this. Anyone after our recipe will find a warm and fuzzy version of it on our home page... he he! Anyway, I'm assuming you are not based in Australia, can you tell me where? Thanks again Denise you have made us both smile!

Hi Selena,

How nice to hear from you. I ran across your web site while doing some kind of search. It may have been a photo search of some kind. I just couldn't believe that those cupcakes and cakes were soap. I was curious to know whether you're using a silicone mold or if you actually start from scratch by pouring into a paper cupcake holder. However you do it, the soaps are awesome.

I am in the US, state of Michigan (the state that's shaped like a mitten and borders Canada).

Thanks for the comment. Always nice to hear from a fellow soaper. Oh, and how I found your name. I believe it was posted on a trade site that promotes or sells your product. There was a bleep about you and your mom. Sorry, I would forward the page, but I honestly have no idea of the link.

Hi Denise,

I've just been on your website again and I can remember reading your email but can't ever remember replying ... hmm not sure but if I didn't I'm sorry I may have been very busy at the time.

It's great to hear from you and we read my reply on your website. And just to answer your question our cupcake soaps are made from scratch, poured into a patty pan (cupcake holder). We update our website with new products, hop on and have a look if you like!! www.bgentle.com.au as I'm sure I will be checking out yours!
